Autumn colors, Shumard oak, Hampton Park, Charleston
Probably 50 years ago or thereabouts, four Shumard oaks were planted in Hampton Park in Charleston. Rare for this part of the state, the oaks have thrived and are truly beautiful each early December when Fall color peaks here at about sea levels. Shumards are generally found at higher elevations so this tree and the three others remind me of the upland part of our state. Most of the other Fall colors is found on our crape myrtles, and in hickory trees found sparingly in our woodlands in this part of the state.

Beautiful tree- so shapely! We have an assortment of Oaks here- all bring us some pretty colors when the weather conditions have been good for them. Good shot!
