On Looker

Today was Norwich - in the rain.
On the way we diverted to look at some of Norfolk's many, many Medieval churches, including one with a round tower.
Sadly the tower was locked, so we couldn't see what it was like inside.
We got rather wet walking into the centre,
so we stopped off at a posh cafe for lunch,
and to dry off.
We did the Cathedral, and sampled the tearooms.
(Bury St Edmunds still has the crown for best nosh)
back at the car park, we noticed some graffiti-style art work,
at one end was this arresting face.
I was struck by the contrast between the church in the background,
surrounded by trees,
and the back lane with weeds & wheelly bins.
Despite the drizzle my eyes kept returning
to that soulful, soulful face.
A face that has seen more than possibly it dare tell.
A few days later and images of rioting and looting made England infamous.
How did we become a nation of rich and poor?
Why do so many children grow up in low income homes?
Why are we slashing money from budgets which enable students from poor backgrounds to escape the poverty trap?
What part can the church play in all this?
How can we bring hope to our nation, our world?
Are WE prepared for what it would cost us to put things right?
Such a contrast; very thought provoking.

Amazing artwork! I always wonder about the artists that do pieces like this.
