Walk the Calke

Googling the National trust site last night I discovered a 'spring walk' at Calke Abbey.
The weather forecast had cloud encroaching from the west, so it seemed to make sense to go east. The weather forecast appeared to have been rather optimistic, the cloud rolled in a bit sooner than we would have liked, but it was still a glorious walk, which included a boardwalk along one edge of Staunton Harold reservoir.
we visited the bird hide to admire the goldfinches, chaffinches, and blue tits, along with a pheasant, pigeon and a rat!
The cafe was very busy. We had green soup. Tried to pay with a card I don't have a pin number for, and when my accomplice lent me some cash, I repaid them by filling their teacup with green soup as well as coating their change, which included a £5 note! Fortunately my card worked in the shop. We then did a whistle stop tour of the photography exhibition and the walled garden, before leaving for home with plenty of time to spare.
Unfortunately, there was an accident on the M42, so we cut across country to Coleshill, just south of the accident, scene of another accident and gridlocked roads.
We inched our way onto an almost empty M42 arriving home at the same time as my daughter :)

P-h-h-h-e-e-e-e-e-w-w-w!!!
We also saw the aftermath of several minor collisions. Take care people!!!!
