My life complete
I came to rest
Upon a muddy bank.
The Severn lapping 'gainst my brow.
And in my peaceful slumbers on I fight
Against erosion of current and tide
With the others by my side
I stand secure
for evermore
rotting for the cause.
No breech will happen where I stand
No brackish waters seep
into the salty deep.
Season by season
silt and seed unite
and form a sea of green
to lap my battered beam
upon this pleasant land
twixt River and Canal
and behind my back
cruisers and barges shall sail free
from Gloucester
to the sea.
