The Liturgy of Crows by daffodill

The Liturgy of Crows

Come let us gather, brother and sister crows
Near the old council house
shall we repose.
We shall process over the gardens
from the great oak tree,
formal dress,
black robes,
the ‘usual’ atire.
Conformity is essential
to be in our choir!
Brother Cecil will introduce the Lamentations Lament,
Longing for summer, and daylight and warmth.
Sister Mavis will take over the thanksgiving refrain,
for food, for water and shelter from the rain.
Brother Oswald will give an Eulogy for Brother Gus
His number was up when he was hit by the No. 66 bus,
trying to salvage one chip to many,
temptation outweighed sense due to an empty belly.
We will finish will silence, deep contemplation.
Then Daphne leads our recessional procession,
a fly past over the new conservatory roof at 93.
Wonderful capture of these crows. I can just hear the lead crow making these pronouncements!
