Stiltsville by danette

Stiltsville

Those are houses located about a mile from Key Biscayne/Cape Florida. There are only 7 homes that remain from the 27. They cannot be rebuilt.

Fascinating! Thanks for including the link... I have never heard of this before. There is a number you can call if you want to use them for a photoshoot, too... sounds like fun!

Very interesting. It's kind of funny that they aren't allowed to be rebuilt, and I think it's wise that that is the case. Then you have Malibu, California where the homes haves been wiped out how many times from mud slides and they keep rebuilding them.

Very cool image, and a fascinating story as well. Are you there on a photo shoot, or just shooting from shore?

@bill_fe I was shooting from the lighthouse. I need to get a boat to get out there!

@skipt07 I think the issue regarding the rebuilding has to do with the ownership of the land. It doesn't belong to the homeowners...it is now government land. I think it would be so cool to have a house or something out there, but to meet current hurricane regulations might be cost prohibitive, not to mention the environmentalists! I don't understand California altogether.

@danette - I think it would be cool too! Well, until a hurricane came bearing down on you. Makes me wonder how many hurricanes they have endured since being built?
