At least there have been periods of non-rain (though heat stirs up the instability of the weather). Some streets were closed last night due to high water. Sawgrass Mills Mall has been closed for 2 days! The pumps are finally catching up. One main system had been clogged.
@rhoing S. Florida is unique in both geography and drainage. Even though I have a knowledge of some of it, it is very complex. Though I am not an environmentalist, I believe that when the Army Corp of Engineers came in back in the 1930's (thereabout), they caused more harm than intended. Now, we have a series of man-made canals stemming from Lake Okeechobee. One of those is the C-14 canal that is about 5 miles south of us. Every other water way, for the most part, will eventually drain into the C-14 if necessary. That is where the main pumps are located to lower the canals in anticipation of a major rain event. If they opened these pumps on Monday when Tuesday was the main problem, why did the water accumulate so much? I realize it is a delicate balance since rain may be forecast that never comes. I am certain there will be many a meeting held as to what went wrong. There is a nearby lake that is just 2' shy of cresting. On the upside, a coconut tree found itself in my son's yard yesterday! :-)
I do hope the weather takes a turn for the better soon! My sister and family are at Disney World this week and have been bombarded with rain every day!
