Today marks one year since the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, just a few miles from my home. This temple was recently constructed by artist David Best to honor those who lost their lives in this tragedy. In 3 months, it will be burned to the ground. Today, it opened. People are writing messages all through the temple and leaving items such as flowers. It is a beautiful work of art. They are not allowing photos inside. It is for reflection.
Our community mourns on Valentine's Day.
@allie912 What's sad is how many times this particular tragedy could have been prevented. I can assure you that the people of Parkland are, in general, quite wealthy and they will not let it rest. A number of parents who lost children work every single day to make our schools safer. I particularly admire one dad who has put his entire life aside to make a difference for his daughter. It is because of him that many changes have already been made. There are even changes that were made in NJ that were put into effect because of this event.
I'm so glad we can't have guns in Australia, it's hard to explain how safe we feel in that aspect - this is a stunning tribute to honour those people. beautiful.
This is such a beautiful tribute to the people who lost their loves that day. I still cant comprehend how this continues to happen and my heart hurts for all of the family and friends. At first, I was confused about building such a beautiful memorial only to burn it down and then I read the article and understood why and it nearly made me cry.
