S is for Sodium Chloride

Sodium Chloride (NaCl) is the chemical name for common salt. The Latin for salt is sal and the Latin for salary is salare which has the same derivation. The Romans paid an allowance to their soldiers to buy salt which was an expensive commodity at the time.
Very interesting, I never knew that! Hope you didn't get told off for making a mess!
