The Rock of Cashel (Irish: Carraig Phádraig), also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock, is a historic site located at Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland. According to local mythology, the Rock of Cashel originated in the Devil's Bit, a mountain 20 miles north of Cashel when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, resulting in the Rock's landing in Cashel. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century. The oldest building here (the round tower) was built in 1100 b.c. It's just astounding to me. In America, our oldest buildings are 250 years old...not 900! PS not sure if anyone is sick of my Ireland pictures yet...I'm almost done going thru and editing...I've just been so busy since I got back that I really haven't had time to even think about my camera!! :( Today, I did take some shots but they were utterly boring compared to the ones I am editing from Cashel!
