We were on the Lake Taupō lakefront late this afternoon and came across these kids competing in a 200 metre run then return via waist deep water in the lake. The air temperature was about 10 degrees!
They make them tough in NZ, although I see kids in the water, are they in the thermally heated part?

oh, dedicated kids! I hope there were jelly snakes at the end for them.

Did they swim or wade - waist deep? What a challenge! What is the world coming to - I have a friend who swims every day of the year - in incredibly low temps!

@maggiemae mostly wading - seemed that may have been in the ‘rules’.

Max ran in this race one year when we were there. In fact I just scrutinised this photo to see if I could see Finn….wouldn't that have been a coincidence. He is 11 next month.
