As an RN I work at a retirement community and I manage two dementia neighborhoods. Our two neighborhoods each have a totally enclosed courtyard, except for the roof. It is totally open to the weather so they can safely go outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. We have the courtyards landscaped with trees, shrubs, flowers, birdhouses, and other yard ornaments along with benches, and a gazebo. They love going outside to walk around and to enjoy the outdoors, and throughout the warmer months we also have picnics. While outside today I decided to photograph one of our giant sunflowers. This year they are standing nice and tall. Hope you enjoy.
This is so beautiful! I love sunflowers too and I have one that replants itself every year.
I work for a non-profit where we have many programs for the elderly. We also put on seminars and have support groups for cargivers of people with alzhiemer's and dementia. What a hard job you have! I hope you are very appreciated.
My residents make every day special. I have been doing this for eight years now. Love it. I have so many Grandmas and Grandpas I don't know what to do :)
This is beautiful a sunflower photo ; the colors and shadows are great.
I did not realize that you are an RN -- I admire where you have chosen to practice. I don't think I could work in that setting -- more than 10 years of my husband's mother having Alzheimers has left me with too many memories.
BEFORE the dementia -- BEFORE everyone started coming to me and saying "Bonnie, when we first talk to your mother-in-law everything seems OK; but after a few minutes we think that something is wrong"...BEFORE all that -- my husband, my mother-in-law and myself grew some magnificent sunflowers.
My husband and I drove thru the town of Lebanon, PA this past week-end.
really beautiful shot. and loved what you shared today as well. my grandmother has had alzheimer's for many years--we are so thankful for her precious care-givers!! thank you for all you do as you minister to your patients.
Gorgeous shot!! I love sunflowers! We planted some but they are not blooming yet. I think I read somewhere that sunlight is very beneficial for elderly patients. It's wonderful that you have an open courtyard like that! You jos sounds really hard, but I am sure that all the patients and their relatives appreciate what you do! I admire your devotion!
This bloom must bring some sunshine to your elderly patients. I have MIL in an alzheimers unit now. It is a tough situation for family and caregivers. Your profession is truly needed and yet under appreciated.
The sun and shade in the picture really give it depth and add to the beauty of the flower. You must be a special kind of person to do what you do for a profession and keep your "sunny" nature.
Love this Rick. Thanks for your comment on my recent shots. The shot of the nasturtium and nectar tube are the same flower. It is nice to know that the residents at your retirement community have such lovely flowers in their surrounds.
Love the flower...nice editing/cropping.... and love the concept of the 2 neighborhoods. How wonderful for the residents to be able to go outdoors safely.
I have a soft spot for sunflowers. When I see them, I just have to smile. So, thanks for the smile! No wonder the residents love to be outside in such surroundings. Your photograph is lovely with the light and shadows, and I like that it takes up the width of the frame.
The Agapanthus on my page will bloom out to the point that the horizontal buds have reached, and many stalks grow close together, making it look like a small forest around my apple tree.
This is so beautiful, Rick...and if you don't mind my suggesting it, I would enter this in the National Pride theme.
Sunflowers standing strong and true, reaching for the sun, are one vision that I have of America. :-)
This is gorgeous!! I absolutely love sunflowers. I have sunflower paintings, decorations even sunflower plates hehe. I bet the residents love having the pretty flowers to look at :)
I'm sitting here watching the Late Show; trying to catch up a little on 365; and I saw this photo of yours on the Popular Page -- just thought I would tell you. Congrats.
