Well, as much as I hate to do it, I was forced to retire my favorite fishing reel. This belonged to my Father. It is one that he used when I was a young fisherman. He eventually gave it to me, and I have been using it faithfully, probably for the past 40 years. It served us well, but this past year I had to surrender it to the state of permanent retirement. I will most likely find myself an antique rod to mount it on, and then find a place on the basement wall to decorate my new work space.
Although I am not much into fishing - too many years as a child and teenager spent on my father's boat fishing has done that for me - that reel is lovely. Are the handles bakelite? I have all my father's old fishing reels which my husband gets out once a year to go fishing with. Really love this shot Rick as it has brought back memories of my father.
I don't know a THING about fishing reels (looks *fine* to me - LOL!), but I *DO* know about beloved items and the memories they carry. Thanks for sharing this with us!
And, thanks for the welcome back. My father died quite suddenly on the 28th. I will eventually fill in those shots, but I'm too fragile right now. Interestingly, I put a lot of what I've learned about photo processing from my 365 project to use getting photos ready for the memorial DVD.
It may have had to retire but it's going to be living on with what your doing with it...a special thing to keep a hold of for as many generations as you can :)

Thank you for taking the time to look at and comment on my photos.
Glad you were able to have many years of enjoyment (:
