Dead On Flare by digitalrn

Dead On Flare

I enjoy walking around, exploring old cemetaries and looking at the old gravestones. I often thought about collecting photos of some of the old cemetaries in our area. There are quite a few, but my Wife thinks it's a bit morbid. I still might take on the challenge one day. This is one that I frequently drive by onmy way home from work, and yesterday the sun was right on and provided me with a dead on lens-flare, so I had to grab it.
Great flare and cool title

I like the photo Rick. I don't think it is morbid. Actually I think it is interesting, especially the older head stones. After all, that is a craft in itself. Anyway, thats my two cents worth. I like the photom and flare.

Not morbid at all.............they are there to be remembered.
Very unusual flare; the kind I'd usually try to avoid, but it works so well here. Great frame too.

This is a great theme shot! I love the black and white--perfect for this photo. Also, being into genealogy, I'm not repulsed by graveyards myself....&=)

I like exploring old cemetaries, too - neat shot!

Yeah I like exploring the old cemeteries too & as you read the gravestone, you just realize how short life is. So make the most of it & 365 is great as it gives us the opportunity to share with others a day in our life.

Good shot. I love some of the old stones in cemeteries. They can be very interesting.

I'd love to see some of the gravestones you find. I too think they are fascinating as they tell the stories of long gone lives.

Great Shot - Lens Flare!!! I used to go and wander around my home town cemetery when I was just out of school, and love doing it to this day. It can be so sad to see the ages of many of the young families and the babies, how heartbreaking.
On the other hand doing our Family Tree, it is staggering how many children were in families back in those days, and you could guarantee that it the 2nd child died very yound the 5or 6 would have the identical name, I found that distressing. A middle name I would have thought appropiate, but I wonder if any of the later children ever felt sad that they were given a used name and not an individual name of their own. I do hope I will not be offending anyone, not intending to do that.

What a wonderful shot, it has a wonderful eerie feel to it. I think photographing the different cemeteries would be a great project.

I love lens-flare. My brother, Capt. Tommy, is a superb photographer with all the expensive and special photo stuff; he tells me how to get rid of it, but I keep it cause I like it. I also like cemeteries, I think it's a comforting tribute to photograph our deceased friends. Go for it, I say!

Lovely flare in this shot. Makes it more "lively" - not a typical cemetery shot. Maybe a bit morbid for some, but also nice that those souls aren't completely forgotten. Someday we will be where they are. Maybe that's why many people find it a bit morbid.

Heehee, that got a dark humor grin from me, I'm afraid! This turned out perfect.

I love cemetary headstone shots and I plan on visiting the one near us soon. I almost went last Saturday night while it was snowing but it was just too darn cold. I think they make for extraordinary photos. Yours is proof of that...great job, nice flare! :)

I agree with your wife Rick I think its a bit morbid. But a good theme shot, with a difference.

I agree with you I find cemetaries very peaceful and also interesting. I am often fascinated when some gravestones have pictures of the deceased ...as it brings it closer to home. This is a great flare shot and suits mono

Well done, I don't think it's morbid. I think you should do it. They were all living people and had a history and you'll be telling their story in photos. I still take photos of my baby's grave. So call it morbid if you want, to some it's just love and art , with some history. :-)

Interesting thought, symbolically speaking, of light (life, enlightenment, etc.) and the stark permanence of the grave stone markers. Great flare too. :-)

Perfect flare....wow!

I Really like this shot. I always like the Flare.
I too like cemeteries. My girls and I can spend Hours taking snapshot at different ones. Full of History.
I too think you should do a collection on the area Cemeteries.

I like this photo. I think you see from the comments above that there are lots of people who love exploring in old cemeteries. There is a lot of history to be learned in old cemeteries. My sister, Frances, & I have thought of putting together a project that would include the cemeteries, gravestones, epitahs, & stories we have learned in our exploration of local cemeteries.
