This is what I felt like on my drive to work this morning. I was functioning, but my surroundings seemed a bit surreal. I was anticipating what the day was going to be like, and I wasn't disappointed LOL. It was another long one. Finally left work about 7:30pm. My mind is once again a bit fried, but the good news, the surveyors leave at noon tomorrow. This was a grueling week for our nurse leadership team, and for our administrators, but it will soon be over for another year. State regulations for long term care facilities are truly overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, the regulations are in place for good reasons, but when the State shows up at a facility, they seem to enjoy making their stay painful, almost as though they want to prove a point, and their goal is to find things that a facility is doing wrong. They very rarely tell you how good of a job you're doing. The bottom line, I know what our facility is like, and I am proud of the service we provide to the residents who live there. Have a wonderful night.
Love this visual! It totally gives the feeling of being in a dreamlike state. It's so frustrating when you know how hard you work, and to have the negatives pointed out. I'm glad you can look past it and take pride in your job. It takes special people to care for others like you.
Love the processing! I can relate to what you are saying! I work in a bank and when the auditors come it is just more than a little stressful.....and with you in your profession I can only imagine the stress! Glad it is over.
Creative picture for the day. It's difficult to always hear that criticism. Generally, it's for the good of everyone...but it's still difficult and not always right. One more day tomorrow...and I hope things go well.
love the perspective and processing! i am sorry to hear that the surveyors have been a bit of a pain in the butt. its not the greatest feeling when someone can do alot of nagging but can never seem to give a nice compliment here and there at the same time. i think it is amazing what you do for work and i love that people care so much for others!! i have a friend who works in long term care and she LOVES it!! So good on all of you :)!!!!
Rick, this photo is very surreal and also filled with feeling. Like the road, it seems it will never end. Thankfully, it will and you can get back to your normal activities. Having gone through the accreditation process on several occasions, I feel your pain! Awesome photo!
You know you're providing good care, and that your residents are well cared for. I think a surveyor can't help but pick up on that when they're at a top facility. This is a terrific photo and text and I hope your visit ends strong!
Rick...I know the state inspections are a tiresome and thankless part of your job. My grandma is in the special care unit of a care facility. I am grateful that there are people like you who have the patience and caring nature to work with people that have Alzheimer's. You are appreciated!
OMG reading your commentary was just like listening to my wifes recount of events at her facility. The state just left yesterday. The state is the state no matter which state! Ours is CT.
The word I hate to hear the most in a review is "But..." It undoes whatever positive feedback the person has previously given. I'm sure that's what the state review feels like too. I really like using this effect on photos every once in a while and it definitely captures your feelings and thoughts about your arduous week. But rest assured, even if you didn't hear much praise from the inspectors, your residents and their families know how well you do your job and they appreciate everything you do for them. Good shot- and hang in there-Friday's on the way!
This is spot on perfect as a representation of your day, Rick. It's also a really cool photo. Sorry it has been such a stressful week for you, but I know, know, know, that your facility will come through with flying colors.
awesome processing Rick. It gives the impression that it's a long way there is. And once again, very beautiful reflections. You are a genius word weaver!
I can feel your day in this shot!!! Really well done and represented!! Can I just say that i have the utmost respect for you and the work you do!!! Anyone in that field, you do amazing things everyday that the majority of us could not handle doing!!! Please know that you are so appreciated!!!! (((((((((((((big hugs)))))))))))))) for you my friend, and i hope tomorrow is a better day!!! :o)
Rick, my first thought when I saw your shot was SNOW...I expected you to say you were trying to cool us off visually via a snow shot edit...hahaha...I do like the processing. And after having spent a good bit of time in a nursing home with my father these past several months I have a new appreciation for people who work there...you are dealing not only with the patient but with their family members...God bless you and your caring staff.
We have to go through something similar at work too . although it is every 4 yrs for us......... but I must say the feedback we get is awesome... not neg... oh dont get me wrong.. there are things that need to be improved.. mainly because in that 3 yrs they change the regs.. but they always give us good feedback and on the day tooo.. which helps... in fact we are only 3 facilities in WA that have our rating... yes that is saying a lot seeing that I work there.... lol
Its sad when you hear the horror stories... of age care,, but then you think how?? how can they get away with it , if the regs are so stringent , and who in the state is NOT doing their job....
anyway glad you survived........... will you look after me when Im 64 please???
Have a cake and cuppa when they leave to celebrate.....
Rick its so nice to know that some people still care and love their jobs and not just go there day by day because they have to and are only looking for a paycheck. I give you both thumbs up for being so caring..the residents must love you.
love the negative image. Sorry you've had such a rough week. Remember such visits from people in UK, the whole school would go into overdrive for a short period while we were being "assessed" HOpe it all eases out now.
Good shot!
I fully understand what you are going through.
My father was in a state run nursing home before he died in 1997 & we had big problems with the care there. It was audited, so I understand what you are going through - very stressful.
Great picture I also thought it was snow, then read your comments, great concept. Best Wishes on the inspections and the surveyors must love being in Control for those days they are there.
you know I don't want to blame somebody else or something about my lack of comments on your photos in everybody else's photos. I just know was trying to comment on your photos, and I couldn't stop sneezing for almost 2 min. This is a very annoying season to me, I get a lot allergies and I can't function really well, a few annoyed at myself.
I'm just explaining myself because you are a faithful follower.
so, sorry for my lack of comments here but you know that I always come back
Your photo fits your feeling to a tee. Thank heavens we have people like you who are dedicated that make their jobs hard when they have nothing bad to say about a well run facility!

Well, at least you got the inspection over with.
I know what you are talking about with the State inspections....oh too well.
