I had to wait for the train this morning, so I took advantage of the opportunity to catch a quick shot of the ongoing demolition that is going on related to the huge bridge project in town. The demolition of this huge old factory building was on hold for a long time while the City attempted to negotiate the purchase the little house that sits smack up against the old factory building. The owner either finally agreed, or the City finally took it over. Not sure what happened, but the demolition is now moving forward once again.
Well . . it's the beginning and the end. Great photo of this! Love the silhouettes of the old buildings against the sky. Feel sorry for the homeowner tho.
@maggie2 Yes, they started the major work around September, and completion day is slated for September 2012, then they are going to start on the other street that runs out of town. So by September 2013 we will have both bridges completed.
@pinktornado39 Laura, if I am correect, no one lived there, I think it was more the landlord wanted to get as much as possible for the house. Many of those homes that sat along that stretch were owned by slumlords who never fixed them up for the people who lived there, but yet charged outrageous rent prices.
I remember you telling us about the work that would be starting in your town & this is a very interesting photo & I love the starkness of the building against the sky !!
Nice of you to put the story into a picture. so the town finally got the property..just hope that the previous owner received a fair price for it and that it hopefully didn't come to an expropriation.
It all seems a bit sad to see the buildings in their final moments. I few years from now nobody will remember what the buildings were that were cited here. You should record as much as you can, Rick.
I wonder what the outcome of the negotiation was with this little house.
