using shallow dof was something I did before I ven knew what DOF was because of my art background. A technique visual artists use to draw the viewers eye to where it's supposed to go is by putting alot of detail in that spot and leaving the rest less detailed. I found I could do this with my camera by using the shallow DOF technique. Didn't know what I was doing until a photog friend of mine looked at one of my pics and said "Wow, great use of DOF!" thanks Chris for posting this, and other articles, that help us 'amateurs' improve our art
