Hdr good or bad

January 16th, 2013
Truly awful, don't even get me started on it.
January 16th, 2013
bad, very bad. Every time you look at a sick-bright HDR you lose 1.5% of your vision. Every time. true story.
January 16th, 2013
Beautiful pictures ... thanks for sharing!
January 16th, 2013
@chewyteeth I lose 1.5% of my soul
January 16th, 2013
@chewyteeth I think that's most of my vision gone in that one article then.

Some of those are ok, but sadly not the majority! HDR can be good if done well.
January 16th, 2013
I LOVED every one of them. Thanks for sharing.
January 16th, 2013
It's not looking good for hdr
January 16th, 2013
sometimes good, sometimes bad
January 16th, 2013
if done well its good :) If overdone I don't like it.
January 16th, 2013
I liked a couple of those...most of them are just too much I feel like. I have seen some awesome HDR photos before...but I don't think HDR is for every type of photo
January 16th, 2013
Not a fan of HDR
January 16th, 2013
like a couple but on the whole they are pretty badly done
January 17th, 2013
I thought the pictures were beautiful.
January 17th, 2013
@tammeray That's about the size of it, aye.
January 17th, 2013
Thanks for posting this to remind me why I don't like HDR. Most of them are awful with a couple being just okay.
January 17th, 2013
@intymalcolm It is all personal taste. We all don't like the same thing which is why we like and fav different stuff . Variety is the spice of life :)
January 17th, 2013
I like it.
January 17th, 2013
I liked most of them, I don't understand how to do HDR but would like to learn.
January 17th, 2013
I hated all of them.
January 17th, 2013
they are like cartoons, except not funny.
January 17th, 2013
I want to say, it depends, but most HDR images I do not like. They do not seem to have a sense of reality. Although, my Sony Alpha has HDR in camera and most those shots are OK. I do not use HDR very much, I might expierment with once in a while.
January 17th, 2013
To me it's like stepping into a fantasy land... all inspiring when I first saw them. Grown to accept them for what they are "a fad." Still have to try it out someday.
January 17th, 2013
not my thing either... looks fake...
January 17th, 2013
good HDR is very good, bad HDR is very bad and the space in between is so often pushed towards the later. it is very easy to overdo HDR
January 17th, 2013
@tammeray I agree with what you said, Tammeray. It is all personal taste. It is another art form and it's nice to see a variety of creativity and art in photography.

99% of HDR is badly, badly done. Including (yes, I'm going to say this and probably get kicked off 365 for doing so) much of what lands on the PP. That's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it.
January 17th, 2013
HDR originally was a term used to combine multiple images of the same scene taken with different exposures. The object was to increase detail in the underexposed and overexposed areas by using the best exposure from each image. Now this exaggerated cartoonish stuff has become popular, and the original usage has been all but forgotten. Too bad. There is plenty of room in our art for artistic manipulation, but I've seen enough of this and wish it would just go away.
January 17th, 2013
Hmmm didn't like most of them as too overdone but I liked the eye!!
I'm not really a fan of HDR as it is usually overdone but if processed properly it can bring out the detail perfectly in some shots!
January 17th, 2013
@sjoblues why would you get kicked off 365 for giving your opinion? Besides 365 is not a competition, its not good photography versus bad, its the fun of taking daily photos, learning from fellow posters and striking up friendships. Photos only get on the PP due to their view/comment/fav ratio or whatever not because they are the best photos (even though they are mostly very good).
January 17th, 2013
@jase_h @chewyteeth Agree and agree.
January 17th, 2013
I guess I like HDR when i don't see its HDR, such as when used to bring out detail like in the eyeshot. I wouldn't say 99% is badly done, rather 99% is not to my liking.
January 17th, 2013
@sjoblues True dat
January 17th, 2013
@vase
Brilliant!
January 17th, 2013
@vase _ fantastic !!
January 17th, 2013
I think they are fabulous and so well done! It's like a trip into a fantasy world. While it is not suitable for all subjects, and can get stale when over used, I thought those photos were amazing.
January 18th, 2013
A few good, a few bad, mostly indifferent. The selectively coloured eye pushes all my buttons, it pretty much encapsulates everything I loathe about digital photography.
January 24th, 2013
I think it's simply another technique. if done properly it can be amazing. I personally like to experiment with HDR, sometimes with excellent results.
January 24th, 2013
Some of them were OK, but like other people have said HDR is not right for every type of shot, that one of the (Golden Gate?) bridge is truely awful though.
