"The photo man"

July 29th, 2013
He has collected and sold millions of forgotten personal photos of complete strangers.

It's not technical, it's not really photographic but it is quite interesting and gentle.

Cheers

I love this! I collect "random strangers" for much the same reason as this guy, and I'd love to go to his stall! I have only included one shot of them so far:

I think any photographer can relate to the 'photo man' and even see themselves, to some degree, in him. For me, it's hard to pass by a discarded photograph without taking time to look and imagine what the story being told is. And it's sad to think that these photographs are captured memories that are forgotten and discarded. I wish I had more time to give to the memories represented within them. Thanks for sharing the video.

There's a stall (sometmes two) at Old Spitalfields market that sell old discarded photos - I've stopped by and looked and wondered about the stories behind the pics and have seen many others browse - But I haven't seen anyone buy..

Clearly they must tho otherwise the stallholder wouldn't keep coming back...

a novel was inspired by discarded photos. Last I heard, they are making a film version. Its called Mrs Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Mrs Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was a delightful read. Am sure it will make a fascinating film.

bless his heart. it always makes me sad to see old photos, framed or not, at flea markets and antique shops. every shot represents a unique and singular life.
