Filter Holder for Lumix ZS10 compact

August 2nd, 2013
Like most compact cameras there is no screw thread to attach a filter or lens hood to the Lumix ZS10.
I wanted to use a variable ND filter and have come up with a solution.

The barrel of the Leica lens is 36mm in diameter.
A 40mm plastic waste pipe has an internal diameter of 36mm.
Get a plastic push fit coupler ( 1 in the collage photo) for the pipe and push the end of the pipe into it.
Cut the excess pipe off and sand the end smooth.
Cut off about 10mm of the coupler and pipe and sand the end smooth.
You now have a piece that looks like photo 2 in the collage.
Purchase a 37mm to 52mm converter (£1.10 on EBay from China) (photos 3 and 4)
The converter is a tight push fit into the pipe as in photo 5.
Screw in your 52mm filter.
The whole lot pushes onto the barrel of the lens as you can see in “Filter and camera”

Should you forget that the filter holder is on the camera and switch it off then the holder just slides off.
It may drop on the ground but the camera is not damaged.
