Hi there I was wondering if anyone could take a look at the sort of photos I take and if anyone can suggest a good way of selling that type of photography. (preferable other than stock photo sorts of websites)
My dream is to sell some of my photography some day. I have thought about selling on etsy. I think some of your photographs might be good as magazine covers. I will check back later and see what the others think. I wish you luck!
You have a good eye for photography, but selling those photos is a bit complicated. It's not difficult, just complicated.
First, the best way to sell them is to create your own website. It takes a monumental amount of work if you do it yourself. Avoid the "free Flash-only" websites like you would the plague. But, there are options, all of which have costs but are worth it if you want to take this seriously.
Check out Photoshelter, Zenfolio, and SmugMug, in that order. They all build the website for you, handle all transactions when people buy prints or licenses, and you only pay a monthly fee.
You can check out my website at http://www.jasonbarnettephotography.com. I use Photoshelter, I pay $30 a month for the site, and it took me only a few days to get it up and running.
@jasonbarnette nie website! i am on a realy tight budget and idealy would like to do it for free! I know that will not be easy! and @daisy thanks for your kind comment!
I do freelance photography for a local newspaper, attending events and taking pictures of newsy things happening in my neighbourhood. It's a good way to get paid for your work, get known in your community and get your name out there upon which to build into bigger publications. It's a lot of fun as well! Good luck!
Jack I have a fan site on facebook that I get a lot of sales from. .. Its not flash by any means but I am a firm believer like all art you have to build a following for your work first. I don't have a huge following by any means but the first photo that I sold went to Canada and felt like I had won the lottery =)
You can check it out if you like its www.facebook.com/proffittphotography and the best part if your just starting out is its free. I do not plan to keep my art based there but it has been a great stepping stone while I sort out where I am heading
@silverhorn thanks for the addvice have liked it on facebook! @kalexa thanks for the advice i would oneday like to be a freelance photographer like you!
@franci All told, I'm not sure actually. I sell about 50-60 photos a month in print sales, and another 10 photos or so a month in image licenses used by newspapers, magazines, and advertisers.
