Land Art Project in South Africa

February 21st, 2011
Not many garden lovers are art minded so it seems but art and gardens go very well together; it is even very inspirational.
Not state financed/funded/subsidised as all major tourist attractions in South Africa is Soekershof;Private Mazes & Botanical Gardens (just google) and there a very special project was initiated. Involve local historically disadvantaged communities in a land art project and raise awareness about the beauty of nature and life. It's the only project of its kind in South Africa that truly works on a mutual beneficial base for both; private owners of Soekershof and communities. Many simular projects are funded/subsidised and what happens is that people expect support without own engagement and no positive change at all.
Soekershof, by the way, is the only garden in South Africa that is, for this reason, certified by Fair Trade in Tourism in South Africa (google again!)
Coming back to the context of the 365 project: we hope to raise awareness for the fact that only money does not change the world; it must also come from the heart.
We notice that within South Africa alone at least 90% of subisidies/funds are going through the drain. And better to face a challenge without depending on certain funds that relying on funds and not undertaking real life changing activities!
