I often have real difficulties, especially if I've had a dull day. I just take my camera along with me and shoot whatever, and decide at the end of the day. If you've only gone to work and back, it can be hard!
I feel like I dont see food often photographed.. when I do its really amazing because I think its extrememy hard to take a photo of food and make it look good (this may be why advertisers use fake food, airbrushing, props to show food)
Anyway, I think it'd be neat to have a food photo contest!
I struggle as I'm retired and don't go out often - yet. I'll go out more often when the weather improves. Our garden will get more flowers as well. So I'm shooting things in our house, buds in the garden, the loch out front. I like shots of food as well.
When I can't think of what to photograph, I sometimes try photographing my daughter's toys in silly poses. Bathtub toys and stuffed animals, mostly. Sometimes they turn out pretty cool.
I think every once in a while the website should have a topic on what we should take pictures of, like a feeling, or a certain object, for the days we don't know what to do and it'll help us get motivated, and plus you would be able to see how different every ones perspectives on things are. just a thought :p
@cchambers is right, dailyshoot.com can give you ideas when your out of ideas. I have bubbles, water drops, candle light on my list but I keep getting distracted with my eggs. Tee hee..........I'll might go out for a walk today and see what I come up with......if weather permits. :) Goodluck!
@hamster@scarletbegonias Besides The Daily Shoot site there is also DPS- http://www.digital-photography-school.com/ It has weekly assignments (you can always look at past ones too for ideas) they have how to fourms too so you can learn new tricks with processing and how to use your camera.

Another thing you could do is look through 365 and find a photo that captures your imagination. You can then try to recreate the same shot, with your own twist on it of course. Acknowledging the original photographer gives them a real kick that someone thinks highly enough of their photo to recreate it.

I love to see landscapes, lights, architecture and flowers, too. HTH
