A frequently asked Question

November 9th, 2011
a lot of people will ask why custom photography costs more....I know that I get that question from many friends who just assume that photogs charge an incredible amount of money when they can just go to a department store and get it cheap...this was a great article to answer that:)

Actually, I think it is, mostly, a poor argument.
The cost part, while true, is irrelevant. It does explain why a professional charges what they do, but does not explain why the customer should pay that.
Reputation? Who cares. Results are what matters. Annie Leibovitz will cost you a fortune to have shoot your portrait. You can, yes really, find someone who'll do as well for a lot more reasonable cost. Not at a store portrait studio, mind.
The experiience part of the article is the only part that matters, and even that is not the way I would phrase it.
Custom is what I would emphasize. They are, hopefully, getting what they want, not what the store is willing to give. Sell them on unique, sell them on your skill.
Most people do not care if their portrait is cookie cutter, it is your job to make them care. Complaining about the cost won't help.
