Hi, I am fairly new to this photography lot and just wanting a bit of advise..
I love portraits and took this one yesterday, I like it but something is not right!
The little chap is fairly pale so red'd him up a bit and added a slight 1960 effect in picnic to also help the colour, I think maybe I over enhanced his eyes?
I'm still very much learning but determined to take awesome pics, just looking for a bit of advise/criticism to help me learn faster.
First, adorable shot. I think his eyes are just fine. His nose and cheeks seem slightly blown out to me and the pink is distracting. Do you have Photoshop? If so, I would create a hue/saturation layer and turn down the red and magenta; then I would lower the brightness a little and up the contrast a bit. Then maybe use the burn tool and give his cheek and nose a quick swipe.
I would aim to get his eyes higher in the frame too, they're almost there but with his right eye, it's right in the middle of the frame which may be why you don't like it. Using my hands I cropped to cover the left hand side up and the top, cutting away most of his hood - try it and see what you think.
You've got lovely focus on his eyes and he's got such a wonderful expression!
Rub his hand out in the bottom right. Before you take a shot look around the viewfinder and make sure there is everything you want in, and nothing you don't want. Someone told me that once and I always remember it. But its fine, very nice.
@shutterbug0810@parisouailleurs@jlhopgood@lolanae@chewyteeth Thanks for your input guys it's much appriciated. Loni I can see the blown out in mine next to yours now! I must admit I did want to do B & W oringinally but it didn't look right, I did experement with cropping but wasn't sure, maybe I'm just lacking a little confidence... and the hand bugs me too Dave. I think I will edit this pic again from scratch taking all pointers into consideration, I will post it here later on. :-)
I love the black and white suggestion and with a slight crop, his cuteness just pops! all in all a good portrait( in the color version I actually do not mind the pink as I think it just screams childhood, but in an adult, I think it would be a bit much..:) HTH @paintedpilgrim
@4stories WOW great job Liz! B & W is amazing for portraits I think, it takes the eye away from eveything but the character of the subject. Thanks for you help! :-)
It's adorable, I think his eyes are just fine. If you don't want to pale him over or make it black and white, just lower the contrast a bit to lessen the light reflected on his cheeks, I suppose. :) I've been at photography for four years but still don't even have a DSLR or Photoshop, so I don't know much about editing outside of contrasting and colour curves, but I think this is absolutely beautiful. ♥

Anyway, it's still a nice shot :-)
