I have over one hundred followers here, but I feel like I never get much feedback, maybe that's because my second year is all self-portraits, but I don't know. So, I'll place a few photos here, but please -if your time permits- looks through my album and feel free to leave some comments. It would be greatly appreciated. I'm just a seventeen year old working with what I can get and it's not easy all the time. Or maybe I'm just going through a period of insecurity with my work. Either way..
Do you give feedback on people's project that you follow? Do you follow enough people?
I notice that some people follow but never comment on people's project. What is the point to only follow and be followed if there is no interaction?
I don't know your case, but it is just something to think about it.
I am not an expert in photography but your photos are easy on the eyes and specially the 4th.
Well, I follow you, Sarah - and I think your photos are great!
I would give feedback more often, but, being not a very good photographer myself, I've nothing constructive to add, and I feel that saying "I really like this!" all the time to each picture would get a little tired...
I'm very much a novice, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.
#1) This is a really nice self portrait. It's unposed, in natural lighting, and it captures a content moment in life. My only question is if you really need the poster in the background. Maybe that movie is a part of who you are and you wanted it there for a reason. Sometimes background elements add context and it's tough to decide what to leave in or take out. In my opinion the poster here takes away from the really strong parts of the picture.
#3) This is really cool! I love the focus and the color and the creativity!
#1) My eyes are drawn outside the window which makes the subject of the photo unclear. Is it the snow outside or your face. I maybe would have cropped most of the window out or added some bokeh to take focus away from the busy outside.
One thing i do with my work is just stare at it for a while. I see where my eyes wander in the photo. If it has a good flow like scanning left to right or vise versa. Or is it scattered and busy. I am also novice, so take what i say with a grain of salt.
edit: Really everyone has their own school of shooting and will have positive and negative things to say about your work inline with what they personally do. Just shoot every single day and always notice the small things.
Sarah, I love your pictures. I'm always impressed by your creativity. As I've said elsewhere when commenting on one of your shots, you're the queen of the selfies in my book!
I think what others before have said applies - leave comments on other peoples shots and they do seem to reciprocate. I certainly see that a lot (probably most) of the comments I get are from people I follow where I leave comments regularly.
Keep on doing what you're doing Sarah because you do have a good eye and some really creativity. I always open up your shots when I see them, on my home page because I know there's always something interesting to see.
#2 - you tilt your camera backwards! Maybe it is a through back to handheld shooting but to me you always let the camera hang, thus the shutter is on top... I guess it is whatever your tri-pod will do... plus with your hand lower you can see your eye in the picture... I just happened to notice and it looked odd...
+1 to more light... compositionally you are there, but everything is too dark on my screen, the photos like the ball on the ground... look flat because of it....
This site is kinda reciprocal. You dont follow as many people that follow you. Not that you have to but you may be commenting on way less photos than what you wish commented back.
But there are many factors involved. If you post a good pic on a slow day there isn't much you can do.
So I dont worry about that stuff. I try to comment as much as I can but the number one goal for me is to have fun and carry no burdons.
