Im very happy with the way this one turned out and id love to hear what other people here think about it. Especially since it seems like most users here don't do a huge amount of Photoshop manipulation etc
Highly inspired by the song: Beautiful Mind - The Butterfly Effect
The concept behind this piece is that you cannot be close-minded when making art. You have to open your eyes to possibility and creativity.
I think that photography should be more about it self, then the manipulation with the photos using photoshop, picasa or whatever. I'm rarely manipulation my photos, the most of time they are sooc, or I just changed the contrast.
I like it! very thought provoking... I think that photography is a means of expression and if you have an image in your mind you do what you need to do to make that message clear to everyone else. Photoshop away!!
I think that looks very effective! I like the way that he seems almost to melt into the background, on the left hand side... (Left hand side as you look at the picture, that is - it'd be his right!)
Currently, I am more into taking natural (SOCC) photos. I might crop or adjust the contrast a little. However, I am beginning to see that photo manipulation via photoshop is like photographers used to do in the darkroom. I like your photo because it almost looks like a painting, which is an approach I like to see. I also like this photo because the words have been placed on the photo. My niece does this with her pottery and I like this. Your photo is thought provoking and carries a message. Therefore, I like your photo for three major reasons.
@lalola616 I'm with you....I like to think I am a purist...haha....I want to take pictures of what I see....I think that photoshop manipulation is another artform of photography...so definitely an interesting option. I am a little disconcerted with the number of people who try and pass altered pictures as reality....but meh, to each their own.
I love this, and I went to uni with a girl who did stuff like this in an old fashioned dark room using liquid emulsions to create her own patterned photo paper. I think that photoshopping is a viable photography technique but also people shouldn't lie about using it. :)
@jasonbarnette i kind of agree with this but like others have said before, people used to create different effects in the darkroom before the digital age,i think works like the one above come under creative photography and there is a place for them in photography circles,an image has been taken with the purpose of a message being attached through artwork, this i feel fine with.i'm not keen on an average photo being tampered with to improve it by changing colour, lighting contrast etc so that it no longer resembles the picture it started out as and then it being passed off as a "snap"
@jasonbarnette@sallycheese Im gunna have to agree with Sally on this one. I think that photomanipulation is the 'new age' advanced form of old dark room effects. While it certainly isnt "pure" photography, the photography aspect IS still important with most photomanipulation b/c a bad photo is going to make for a bad end result (granted there are was to fix SOME things but not ALL things)
I can see where you would argue though that it is a completely different medium b/c a Camera and Photoshop are two different tools used to create art but I dont really agree with that.
I would certainly say that you can create expression and meaning out of both "pure" photography and photomanipulation. Personally for me I find I express myself better through manipulations [:
Regardless of what people want to classify it, im glad you guys enjoyed it! :D
It is very artistic! I think it's really crummy for anyone to tell you that your photograph is any less of a photo because you used editing software. Yes, it is art, but it's still a photograph.
I think the only thing I would change is the black box around the eyes. Maybe make it a little smaller so you can see the edges of the face on either side, but otherwise I like the effects. I wasn't sure if the intent was to wrap the black box around the left side of the hoodie or if it runs into it because of the darkness on that side. I also like the body language of the model, that is really telling as well.
@lislee75 It kinda runs into the darkness of that side but kinda doesnt. The idea was to make it look almost spraypainted on, the spatter is what ends up running into the hoodie. Im gunna try and go back and lighten it up a little underneath and see if that helps. I know i tried to lighten it up some already but maybe i can get more out of it? idk we shall see!
I should probably tag this as self-portrait lol.. since its me in the picture

I just prefer the more naturla photos.
Photography is what you do with a camera, not with Photoshop.
This is some very nice art, I like it, but it is no more a photograph than my neighbor's kids' finger paintings.
