I think you're off to a great start. For me, #3 is the best. The selective coloring is excellent and it's a fun shot. #4 is very nice too. A well-processed abstract. #1 is ok, but the faces are dark, and you cut their feet off. Two options, move further out and include the legs and feet, or move closer and just capture the faces. #2 is hard to tell what you were trying to capture- the harbor or sunset/evening sky. The lighting is dark. You'd have to use a longer exposure and a tripod to improve the lighting and bring in more detail. I think you have a good sense of what to photograph. There are a lot of ways you can learn to improve your pictures here and this is a great way to do it. I'm sure you'll get more suggestions (and some with more expertise than mine!) Keep up the good work!!

@olivetreeann Thank you for you criticism, it is well appreciated. Number one was taken without the feet so I can't do anything about that, but I will surely try different lighting. Thank you so much for the feeback!! :)

@shifie You are welcome Shifie! You might be able to crop #1 in a photo processing program if you have it. You should be able to adjust the lighting too if you want to give it a try.

@shifie here's my critique:
1 - good use of 'rule of thirds' but the faces are too dark, you can use a fill light from your camera or reflectors shining on their faces next time.
2 - great landscape but the lighting is bad because of sunset (or is it sunrise?), unless you're after a silhouette shot, I would suggest just wait until the sun is out and everything is lit up before shooting.
4 - good composition, but too much saturated light from the sun, suggest changing your color settings to Neutral Lighting in your camera.
3 - is the best, no comments there.
Great work mate!

Hi! Please don't set too much store by anything I say, as I don't know what I'm doing either! But my thoughts are these...

1 -
The children in the foreground are obviously supposed to be the main subject of this picture - but when I look at it, I find my eye is drawn past them, towards to the background, too much. Perhaps try experimenting with depth-of-field, to bring the children sharply into focus, but their surroundings less so? Also, as some other people have mentioned, more light on their faces would be good, and would help with this too.

2 -
I love the silhouette of the headland, and the "glowing" boats at anchor in the bay! But looking out across the sea, and towards the horizon where it meets the sky, the image looks a little grainy - a little "noisy". I haven't looked at any of the data for these pictures, but could it be because there wasn't much light when you were taking this shot, so you were using a high ISO number to compensate, and as a result the lighter areas of the image are graining up a bit? Perhaps set the ISO a bit lower, to avoid this, and either shoot on a tripod with a longer exposure, to get the right amount of light into the shot, or take the picture at a different time of day, when there's more light available naturally.

I love this! The selective colouring works really well on the purple shoes, and there's some good detail in the black-and-white grass, as well.

4 -
I really like this photo, too - although it took me a little while to realise what it was actually of! I don't have a whole lot to say about this one either, except that it is very orange... There's nothing wrong with that in itself, of course, but if it were my picture I would certainly have experimented with the colour balance in Lightroom before uploading, to see what difference a few tweaks might make. It's perfectly possible that I'd have come back to the original version, in all its glorious orangey orange-ness, but it's definitely worth playing about, just to see what happens.

As I said, please feel free to disregard any or all of what I've just said, but I hope you found that at least some of it was helpful to you!

I also like the bottom two best. On the first two I think you might have a little too much contrast. Still cool shots. :)

I agree with ronphotography above
your pictures are a bit dark, are you using automatic settings?
Is there a lot of noise on the pictures o the sneakers?
I would say your watermark caused me issues. I use a watermark on a picture I think is likely to go walkies, pics of family and sneakers I wouldn't worry too much about, but if you want to put it on there for security you're putting it so low down I could just crop it right off. I suggest putting it more centrally but fading it in on your software so it isn't as prominent. ;)

Number three is my very favorite. :)

Number one and number two both seem very dark - is it post-processing, or settings on your camera? Dark can be awesome, but it seems the first one has a really, really bright background compared to the subjects. (And really, I just go play with things in photoshop, and know nothing "technical" for the most part, so yep. :P I may not be the best person to listen to.)
