10/10 Love it The lighting is terrific.

It's a lovely action shot with a good composition. I'm also a bit puzzled by the strange dark spots in the lower middle...

@mastermek It's a bush

Ha yes! Now I see. A little distracting. I think I would 'shop' it away. Still a great image!

the lighting feels a little artificial, but I really like the cyclist's shadow

@eholle because it is artificial ha I have my flash on a wire less trigger

I actually like how the lighting is highlighting him, but to balance out some of the other concerns I may have cropped off the bottom a bit so it had a more sunlight feel to it.

Impressive! The lighting definitely adds much drama to the photo.

I agree with Paula. Crop the bottom off and that will take care of both the bush and the balance. I copied it and did a quick 8X10 crop of everything but the bottom two inches and I think it works. Give it a shot. Nice capture with the flash.

It's a great pic but I would also crop away some of the lower part.
October 3rd, 2011
I would crop away some of the lower part too - to just above the black dots of the bush @kimmiesue

First day? Great start! Outdoor flash is so much fun, and you can create some really incredible images.

I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but some of your clouds look burnt out. When I shoot outdoors, I expose for the sky first, and then fill in with the flash. This could be hard if you don't want to adjust your aperture or ISO, and the proper shutter speed for a "correctly" exposed sky is above your camera's x-sync speed (since you're using an XSi, you'll max out at 1/200 unless your flash supports high speed sync). Anyway, just something to keep in mind.

If the look of the clouds was intentional, then great, because they look perfect and you shot an awesome picture. If not, then at the very worst you've lost a little latitude in post, should you want to correct their exposure. But it's definitely not a show stopper.

Again -- great work!
