@kimmiesue : I totally agree. I don't see the point of the film burn - in my opinion it makes a perfectly good picture bad. If you want to enhance yourself why not try putting yourself into b&w or the meadow, or blur the meadow, or saturate the colours on yourself or something like that. I really like the composition of this shot though!
Personally I love it. I'm all for learning new techniques and broadening our horizons. It's how we grow as artists. It ain't perfect. But it's pretty good.
@jannaellen@kimmiesue I have to completely agree.I think it is a bit distracting and makes the grass really appear bright and the crisp white of the shirt gets lost. I lean towards thinking that the edit makes my eyes have to work way too hard. I would go for a soft blur on the meadow. Not sure if you are doing a vintage look. But the most important thing of this photo is that you are trying new things and taking risks, which I think it one of the most important elements of the photo.
Ditto @kimmiesue et. al. I think it's distracting. If it was print film I'd be wondering what happened in the processing to cause that streak. I like @brumbe 's suggestion of blurring the field to highlight the person- seems to work with the idea that your photographing it and bringing it into view. It's ok to experiment though and how else would you know what different effects do?
@axel@scatcat@kimmiesue@jannaellen@brumbe@olivetreeann@bruni Thanks guys for the feed back, I guess what I was going for was a bit of a vintage feel, what I'm gunna do when I get home is re post using some of your suggestions as well as the original! Thanks again for the tips :)
here is the copy with saturated skin/// @jannaellen
here is b&w me...
and this is the original with a blurred grassy area...
All very rushed. but thats what you guys were thinking? i do like the selective color one. and i quite like the original, i think the tones are quite vintage feeling? @axel@scatcat@kimmiesue@jannaellen@brumbe@olivetreeann@bruni
The original is quite lovely, if you want you could even add a bit of retro tone with Picnik. I really like the selective colour version but I'm a huge fan of that (other than quite some people on here...). Still really digging your pose ;)!
From the three you've posted, I think I prefer the first, but I also like the third. I agree with Janna, you could add a bit of vintage feel with Picnik. The cross-processing edit could be nice too. Regarding the selective colouring, it gives me the impression you have been added (photoshoped) to the background. Opinions are very subjectives though, just wanted to share my feelings about the different versions :-)
I really like the black and white you. The white is still really crisp and makes me focus on you and what you are doing. My eye moves a bit, but knows where the focus is. And @jannaellen you are the queen of selective coloring.
Selective coloring absolutely ruins it for me, sorry. I find the first of the three by far the best and I do really like the tones: vintage but not overdone or unnatural. An improvement to the film burn one!
