If you are in a photographic rut, what is your 'go to' shot to take? I don't know why but I just can't even think of anything I have a strong desire to take pictures of. And my whole purpose in this project is to get out and do more "me" things and take pictures just for me but I don't feel inspired to shoot anything like I used to. I used to take 50 shots of the same thing from different angles to find one I liked. Now I take one, hate it and scrap the idea because it sucks lol.
What I do is sit in the middle of the room, backyard or somewhere and hold the camera .. For 10 minutes and I just look around at different angles but I don't use my camera until I come up with an idea. Try it, it's a nice exercise ..
if I am really feeling lacking in inspiration I just shoot about fifty random photos that are not planned posed composed or in any way orgainised, then I whack them on the computer and see if I can crop something special out of them at the editing stage. This works for me if I do not know WHAT to shoot :D
also you could try something simple like a week of selfies or an a-z challenge?
You could try one of the themes/challenges for inspiration. The January Treasure Hunt is fun and will help to inspire new ideas. Otherwise you could decide to take a b&w photo for today and then take the same shot in colour tomorrow. Another thing I like to do is to take my family and explore an area we haven't been to before. I gave my daughters cameras for Christmas so we are going to the lake this afternoon to take some photos. I will probably spend most of my time taking photos of them taking photos. When I first started my project, I took part in the weekly themes. They were very helpful in jump starting my imagination. For example, one week the theme was "red" - I never realized how many red things I had in my house! Give it a try!
Music greatly inspires me. Sometimes I will sit and just listen to whatever Pandora has to offer for my mood. Textures also inspire me. I can't explain why, lol, but I love textures.
my go to is Macro. Anything can look cool if you get close enough. Still trying to figure out my new camera though so not as helpfully as normal for me....
