what camera to buy?

January 5th, 2012
Hello all you amazing & informative people, I am looking for some advice/suggestions. My daughter has just booked a Contiki tour of Europe for later this year, owing to the type of travel involved she will need a lightweight camera, I use a Nikon D5000 but this is a bit heavy. I'm not sure what is out there but I'm sure one or more of you will be able to suggest the perfect one for her.

The Sony Nex cameras and the various micro four-thirds cameras are a good compromise between weight and image quality. They are interchangeable lens cameras.
For a pure, self contained pocket camera, I recommend the Canon G12.

I have a Cannon S95 which is a brilliant little compact camera with all you need for manual, RAW or auto photography at a sensible price. I would probably have considered the Sony NEX with interchangeable lens too but I had already bought mine when this camera came out. I hope your daughter has a wonderful time Sherrill !

I use a Panasonic Lumix TZ10 and I love it. Great colours, great in low light, 12x zoom and uses leica lenses.

Another vote for Olympus Pens! Check out my project if you want to see one in action, I use an E-P2 for all of my shots.
