well, here's my shameless attempt at getting more people to vote on what mascot I should take on my travels with me this coming year

So weigh in and let me know what your favourite is.
EDIT: it's not going to be in ALL my photos... It'll just feature in one shot per location
Weng, will it be for all your photos? I find that always putting an object in a photo is easy at first but will really limit you as your skill increases on this site. I will say that a rubber duck was used quite successfully last year by someone and may stand out in viewers minds already. Also in considering an object give real thought to size and portability becuase darth looks a bit big. .
So I think an occassional model would be great, but you may miss out by having the flexibility throughout the year.
In my opinion: If you have the amazing opportunity to travel, why not use it to improve your photography across the board? If you take photos of a figurine through your travels your photos will be limited by how you can fit in your traveling companion. In twenty years will you want to see pictures of Darth in [insert location], or photos that show how you grew as a photographer as you chronicled your travels? It's a cute idea, but a little young and short sighted. I see how it's a fun idea, but don't sell you or your opportunity short with cute... Just my opinion.
Cool, some people choose an object for all 365 days and I cannot even fathom that. I would pick the geisha girl or bus, but I would pick something reflective of you.
@brumbe@herussell thanks for the input and the concern :)
Don't worry I won't be doing purely shots of this critter, it's just going to be a common theme for me to look back through some pictures of my time in Europe... If you check out some of my past years, you'd see that i love my travel photography too much :)
the smaller the better as it gives more options. i like that the geisha can be hung in a photo, be sure to take clear line and an ornament hanger if you choose her. sounds like a fun perspective.
@jasehoad Cheers mate... Yeah I figure one of these days I'll be back in Australia for good and will want to look back on things I've done around the world. As well as the normal travel photos I take, I figure this might be a kind of fun thing that I can use to piece together the travels of this year
@toast I just realized that you were not a new member so you can ignore all my comments since you know what you are getting into and take some mighty fine photos.
@toast For any travel that does not involve my car I am a minimalist traveller. I learned that laundries are everywhere, drugstores sell forgotten necessities, and you can only bring two lenses and your tripod must fit in the carryon suitcase.
@jasehoad He edited it later to say that. The original topic didn't say that.
@toast I did take a quick look at your photos. I didn't see these, but your talent was partly why I was concerned that you not limit yourself. Whichever travel companion you choose, I hope you have lots of fun.
@brumbe Totally agree! Anything less than a week all I have is my carry on luggage... And half of that is my camera gear! I've picked up many tips and tricks in the past few years including how to survive a 8pm fly in, 7am fly out (no hotel) drinking trip to Amsterdam
I agree that if these are going to be travel photo's then the bus is the choice I would make. It is bright yet small so although would be very noticeable in a photo it leaves plenty of room for the real subject.
The blue duck fo sho!! He's bright, vibrant and easily recognisable and you can throw him in a river, hotel room bathtub or the sea for some rad shots!
So I think an occassional model would be great, but you may miss out by having the flexibility throughout the year.
@taneajanine 2 for darth
@grecican you don't like any of them?
