Well it's one of two things - number of times that link in your tweet's been clicked, or number of times it's been RTd. I... have no idea which! </helpful>
I think it's the number of times you've shared/tweeted it, or it's been RTd. My views on individual photos used to shoot up when I shared via tweet, but the number next to "tweet" didn't although it sometimes went up to 2.
It counts the number of times it's been tweeted total. So if YOU tweet it, it should say 1, but if someone else tweets/retweets the same link it will go up. Be proud you'r work is being shared! =)
@azza_l Oh come on Az, work out the mystery for me! Have tested retweeting and doesn't seem to change....my portrait yesterday says 4, today says 2. Confuuuuused!
Yeah, it's along the lines of what @ariananeala says - number of times it's been found in twitter by the people who make the sharing widget. They're not always 100% accurate* but if the number's going up it can't be a bad thing!
*For example, the one I use for sharing out my blog posts, if I link my blog post in Facebook, then my little number on my share widget goes up every time someone even comments on my linked post - so it's not always express re-sharing, but some indicator of activity around your URL.
@azza_l Do twitter, my experiment seems to be increasing my photo views....hmm! Oooh, it did kick off last night, couldn't sleep last night, was running round my head (my job involves child protection so was over thinking everything). But enough about that, this is about twitter! ;)

@emmaroobers agree with you Ems, it very much increases views but doesn't result in any comments as the 'viewers' are obviously not 365ers so cants comment......:(
