Okay so I see pictures like these here and there and I would love to try something like it, but to be honest I have no idea what it is. If you have any info about the ball thing please share, Thanks :)

I don't know about the ball thing, but there was a guy called Nathan Marshall who use to do a similar thing with a round filter, but I can't remember what type.

Have you tried asking the person who posted the photo?

It's just a crystal sphere, hold it up in front of your subject and focus on the image in the sphere. A wide aperture helps keep the background blurred. Something like this on ebay or go to a novelty store to find simple glass balls. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clear-Crystal-Ball-50mm-2-Include-Crystal-Stand-and-Gift-Package-/220905000719?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336ef6cf0f#ht_500wt_1134

it's called a gazing globe - it can be made of glass or crystal. i like to flip my images 180 degrees so that the scene inside the globe is oriented correctly. you can find them online or at a hobby shop.

@chelseap92 hi chelsea, I took the shot that you posted :) I used a 80mm solid crystal ball that I got off ebay about 8 years ago...not for photography :)
