With Picnik closing very soon - and Google not really understanding how popular this site actually is - I have been hunting around for another editing site that is just as easy to use as Picnik with a similar layout.
So, I headed to Bookcrossing and posed the question of photo editing there; as we have some photographers on there who love to read. The reaction was immediate and eye-opening. People gave me the usual places to head to - like PhotoShop and Picasa - however, I've not had any luck those on the computers I've owned.
Then, one Bookcrosser suggested iPiccy stating it's a great site, as it looks very much like Picnik's distant cousin in every way. So, I tried it and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to work over my photo... however, it doesn't do collage.
So, I've just looked on Google and found a couple of sites to collage with.... I really wish Picnik wasn't going away.... it was so much fun to play with...
@allie912 Hey you're welcome. As most of us are in the same boat about this, I thought it would be a good idea to share this on here for everyone to see. :D
@kjarn Thanks for putting these ones up here. However the ones I've put up are ones I've looked at and tried out... I wouldn't put them up unless they were good enough.
There were others that cost money and you had to download - and so, I gave them a miss. The ones that didn't look fun to look at, normally aren't fun to use, and so I try to look out for collaging and editing programs that are easy on the eye and easy to use too. So, we're not on the computer for hours on end. We upload, edit, collage and put onto 365 and it's done. :)
@mozette so sorry I didn't try them out first, just offering up suggestions. I didn't just pluck these out of thin air either, I asked the question on numerous sites and of numerous people and this is what others have used and suggested. The two most popular responses were Fotoflexer and iPiccy.
ooh! thanks! will definitely have a look. i'll miss picnik - so easy for someone like me who only does simple stuff (and can't make photoshop do what i want it to...time for some tutorials!)
Awesome finds everyone! Thanks for posting all of them--I've yet to find something to replace Picnik completely but this gives me a stepping point. @mozette@kjarn@peterdegraaff@samdan
As a perverse bit of logic, If a Google+ account is not what you want then Google will be more than happy to help in the search for other online editers :)
I just Googled online photo editers and there were nine different one's on the first page with Piknic only fourth on the list (poetic justice or what?).
I've had a play with iPiccy and Pixlr and they just don't compare with the balance Picnik has between ease of use and range of tools. I just opened a Google + account and in Creative Kits, there is, for all intents and purposes (except Cloning) Picnik! So I'm wondering what people have against Google +?
@kmrtn6 you have to upload a photo first before you get access to Creative Kit. It is set out exactly the same as Picnik but there is a lot less to choose from.
Okay... now I'm looking around for a good collage program; and none of them out there seem to be anywhere as good as Picnik. Does anyone agree with me?
