Cokin Lens Filters

Is anyone here using the Cokin Len Filters? Or are you buying Filters individually for each lens. I have polarized and UV for all, but am looking at Neutral density lens filters and considering the Cokin system.

All advice or comments welcome!

I use the cokin system and it is great if you have a wide variety of lens as you buy the one filter and with the adapter rings it will attach to all your lenses up to 82mm. Economically they are better to buy in the 3 pack with the lens holder but I bought a polarising filter over and above that as well. Great for landscapes. I would still buy a UV filter for each individual lens to protect your initial investment. Definitely recommend cokin though.

I have some of the A series filters but they are very hard to get hold of now. My Dad got some of a different make recently which are Cokin compatible, but a lot cheaper. Will look out the site he got them from for you.

Just got me a set of Cokin P series filters from Premier ink. Fast and reliable service.

You get the filters (4 of), lens adapter and filter holder all for £50. IMHO a great starter set at a fantastic price. I did however add an ND8 to the set after a week.

Btw if you need to you can buy additional lens adapters in various sizes. :)

I bought a set and they work pretty well but have a habit of collecting dust and dirt really easily. I only use them when I'm doing landscape work, which lately has not been all that often.

Some of the effects can be done post in photoshop (saves getting dust and scratches into the photo).

I agree with brian, UV for all lenses. Leave those on and put the cokin ontop

I havent' been able to use the cokins with my 70-200 very well, the autofocus just doesn't like having the filters there. It could just be my lens, but if you can you may want to try it out with each of your lenses before you decide to get it.

Cokin. Love.

Only trouble is, you can't use a lens hood at the same time. They do make traditional (round) ones though, and they are also excellent quality.

@swguevin If you're shooting digital, there is hardly a need for filters. Film, yes. Certain filters like a CPL or, as you mentioned, an ND filter, perhaps.

I have used Cokin in the past, probably was back in the 80's.. Nice because it is a quick change, but, as jiximages mentioned, you cannot use a flower hood, lens hood, etc.

However, I have a box of Tiffen filters for my film cameras, which I regularly use.

I think filters are still useful even if you've gone digital, it can save you post-processing time.
