Waterproof Housing for SLR Cameras

July 7th, 2010
Has anyone ever used a waterproof housing for an SLR? I'm extremely terrified to try one, but we are going to the beach in two weeks - I'd really like to buy one IF I'm certain that they work well. I'd probably have a stroke if I ruined my camera.

Any success and/or horror stories with using these?

Thanks!

I'm too scared to use one on my SLR, but I've got an underwater Olympus camera and love it, my family and I have so much fun with it, and it takes pretty good photos.

I don't have any experience with a housing for the SLR, but I did just purchase a 12megapixel P&S underwater camera, and it is great. It is waterproof for up to 10 feet. Takes great normal pics out of water too. My photo from yesterday is an underwater one I took of my son. I thought about a housing for my SLR, but don't want to risk it. Good luck!

Thanks guys - I have an underwater camera - an Olympus 550wp.... It just takes really terrible quality photos both in & out of the water. I think I am too scared to buy a waterproof housing though for fear it may leak. I'd be devastated if I ruined my camera. I think I am going to buy a decent P&S camera instead. I'll just be careful at the beach with it - but IF something DID happen, I'm only out a very minimal cost next to my SLR.

Thanks for your advice!
