On average how far will you drive to get a picture?
I've driven way farther from my photo scavenger hunt then I have yet for 365
Today I drove 12 miles to get a picture of an airplane and last weekend I drove two hours to the coast to get a picture of a beach. So how far have you gone?
About 4 hours away from home total a couple weeks ago for some lighthouse and sunset pictures. Normally at least an hour away because I do a lot of barn hunting.
Actually, the soaring price of gas has REALLY put a crimp in my shooting. There have been a few events of late that I very much wanted to photograph, but decided not to go to because it would have cost too much in gas and tolls. Not happy about it, but that's the reality being unemployed right now.
I really would have liked to go to a crane gathering that aparently is in Colorado every year that I had never heard of before...but 4 hours away is like eternity in a car to me haha so no go! I have also heard about another event I never remember hearing about before now with some typically closed to the public or not free museums/historic buildings etc this upcoming weekend that I might be more persuaded to go to, we shall see!
I am close to some pretty amazing places so I like to drive on the weekend anyway if I can afford it. Three hours one way is my limit. Anything longer than that requires an overnight trip. That being said, that time limit allows me access to Tahoe, Nevada, the California coast including San Francisco and Santa Cruz, etc. Thankfully I have a fuel efficient car!
I've never traveled some where for the sole purpose of taking photos. If I'm going somewhere I try to bring my camera, but that doesn't always happen. I have a boring life! There are many beautiful places around here so I've never had the urge to drive far away to take pictures. Maybe some day when I get a few minutes to myself (insert sarcasm here) I'll plan out a little trip to take photos.....
I have driven 3 to 4 hours and would not be opposed to driving further if there was a great photo op waiting. Of course vacations are a given, but now I find myself planning mini road trips to destinations that I know will have some beautiful scenery or facinating things to capture.
Nearly all my pictures are taken within a ten kilometre radius of my home.Limiting my range encourages me to look closer at all the possibilities within that circle.
So far, ten miles or so has been my limit, but now that the weather's nice, I'm thinking 50 miles which puts MD's Eastern Shore on my photo map, as well as West Virginia, Gettysburg, the Shenandoah Valley, and so on. Lots of possibilities, including DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis which are ten to twenty miles away.
not very... mostly i take my camera with me, and not the other way about... i work full time and have three kids, soooo not lots of extra time to go places just to take pictures... i will go for a walk around town at lunch some days while at work... and i did drag the boys out for a walk yesterday (stat holiday) to take photos somewhere different, but really, it wasn't more than a 10 minute drive (if that) from our house...
I tend to go further on the weekends, during the week most shots come from my backyard! When the weather gets slightly better no doubt we'll be traveling a few hours to go walking/hiking and of course the camera will be coming too =)
If time and money were unlimited no doubt most of us would be flying to different countries every week!

Slightly over 400 miles away after taking my daughter back to her school.
