Apparently the photo monkeys have put me in time out this week. In under 24 hours, the following photo has managed to get 16 faves, over 120 views, and quite a few comments. Yet its nowhere to be seen on the PP.
I think they're blacklisting this photo because of how fast the following image made PP last week:
I would love to see anyone's photos from this week that the 365 monkey's have put in time out
@michaelelliott I've noticed that Michael.... you fly under the radar with all these faves and people have no idea that the shot they think might make top 20 won't because there are people like you that are consistently good and so you don't hit the PP and then end up with something in the top 5 of the top 20. I actually look for your photos specifically in the PP and am left scratching my head. I know this happened to Aaron recently too.
@dmortega well, I usually look at PP to find photos I might not come across otherwise,and while I'm there, I look to see if one of mine that has been received well is there. But I agree, lately looking at PP has driven me crazy LOL. And thank you!
@jsw0109 - It used to drive me nuts I'd have a pic with 20-30 favs and no PP. The algorthim system stinks and does not work. So I don't even look at PP anymore. But am happy and honored to make the Top 20 as often as I do (though a few times I could've had 3 pics in top 20 but Ross limited me to a max of 2).
if it wasn't for this thread, I probably never would have discovered the shot @tandem02 posted here... I think it is remarkable and have fav'd it and am now following someone new! THIS is what this thread was all about (if it was all about me, I would not have asked people to post pics they felt were blacklisted by the photo monkeys). And its nice to know someone else discovered her through this thread as well. Lets keep this thread going so more people can be "discovered"
i've had the same questions regarding the pp and top 20 not just for a few of my pics but for others' pics as well. it adds to the mystery of the site! In particular, it's too bad that pics cutting across two weeks don't seem to get to the top 20 unless they have an extraordinary number of favs. 35 or 40 doesn't cut it.
@sunnygreenwood you need at least 20-25 favs in one week to make the top 20, so 35 split across two weeks won't, nor will 40 necessarily. It depends a bit on traffic on the site.
It is a great feeling if one of my photo makes the PP, but it isn't the reason I do this. I think the monkeys are a little in love with cats and kittens because an awful lot of them are on the PP page tonight...especially kitties looking up - I wonder why that is ? I don't have a cat, but the next time I photograph one I will make sure it looks up ! I haven't had too many favs this week, so won't post a photo on this thread for the moment
@sharonaddison@jsw0109 Enough with the cats. I think it's time for the rats to have their 15 minues of fame on the PP. My rats have never made it there and they are not happy. And one of them is looking up!
i figure the monkies are unfathomable and i can't be bothered to expend the time to fathom them... there are lots of lovely photos on the pp... and ever so many more that i never see there... right now the pp seems to be all about butterflies... whatevs ;p
Time out? My photos haven't seen the POP page in almost a month. I think they missed two of mine, although my photos aren't getting the views they once did either.
@Scrivna - if you're tweaking the algorithm again, would it be possible to make sure that if the number of the photo is 365 (or 366 this year) it doesn't get held off the PP?
@Scrivna I realise that the algorithm is written so that people who have had recent pictures on the PP don't get to dominate it, What I was asking was that you made an exception for their final pictures, so wrote something into the algorithm that meant that photo 365 or 366 didn't get caught up in this net.
I think I'm blacklisted, which I take as the highest of compliments, lol. For the first time, I was in the top 20 this past week... then I had the most positive feedback on today's shot (so far, 52 views/16 favs) but nowhere to be found on popular page (which is o.k...... :) )
