I got rid of my 10-year-old monitor today and finally got a flat screen (I hope it will survive my kitty's attacks). I knew that my pictures looked really dark on my old monitor, many areas used to look way too dark to me, so I usually brightened them in the post processing. Now with the new monitor, I think many of my pictures are way too pale... Don't you think so?
Another thing I'm worried about... I will probably post darker versions of my pictures from now on; just because they will look just right for me on my new monitor - but that could mean they will look too dark for those with darker monitors. Why are these things so complicated? lol
Don't you think it's just frustrating that pictures look so very different on different monitors?
I think your photos look great =)
Photos never look spot on unless you calibrate the monitor. We have 7 (yes i know its an addiction lol) and 2 laptops and my photos look different on almost all of them.
@judithg : if they do, I hope they will still look good for you in the future with the new one... :-O @cheribug : I hear you! :-) @tanja_1211 : Yes, I really think I should try that. @kannafoot : Thanks for the link, Ron; will try that tomorrow (as it is almost bed time here...)
Yep! On my iPad mine look great... on my home computer, good but not as good... on my work computer my photos look totally washed out! It does drive me a little crazy.
I think you may need to adjust the new monitor to the proper color balance. I just looked at your photos on my flat screen dell and I think they look fine for color tone and I would say that only the ones intended to be pale actually are pale. I say a calibration is a safe bet.
I am having exactly the same trouble - two computers, two very different looks and I have no idea which is more accurate. :(
My pics look fine on one and waaay too dark on the other.
I've worried about that, too, with monitors. Mine pictures look great on my home computer but when I had a book made of my first year, the pictures in the book looked a little darker on the pages and made me wonder if other people were seeing them darker.
I'll check out that link to calibrate the monitor.
i hate the whole difference in monitor thing. i've tried calibrating and everything. i think my issue is being on a laptop at home, my pictures will look totally different depending on just the angle i have the screen at on the laptop.
@shadowdancer hehe I had to get a new monitor last year, noticed the same thing you did! Everything looked so much brighter.
I keep telling myself to haul out my laptop and double check everything, but it's not like you can really control how people see them, phones, thumbnails ect...
This is why I needed a new scratching post, err I mean monitor...
(Koala got trained pretty quick not to scratch, or stretch on my monitor, or walk on the graphics tablet!)
Thanks for all your replies, at least I'm not the only one dealing with these issues... lol I tried that calibrating thing but I'm not sure if it worked.
Luna, however, likes the new monitor even better, she's really obsessed with it. Hope the monitor will survive her treatment. lol
