I work for a games company and we are currently implementing a couple of facebook games. Just out of curiosity who here plays them and what games do you play.
I don't play them and very few people in the studio do - we are more hardcore gamers than social and casual gamers - so interested to get a snapshot of the 365 community who play these sorts of games.
If you do play them what do you like about these sorts of games? I can't see the point myself but i'm not the target audience
Not I! Facebook is for networking, socialising, communicating, keeping up with friends, organising events, promoting things - not for playing games... (In my opinion, that is!)
Plus, a lot of the games which seem popular on Facebook are just rubbish...! I tend to hide posts about Farmville et al from my News Feed, so I can focus just on status updates from friends, and companies I "like"...
Agreed with Steve, I play Bejeweled Blitz. It started out as me and my roommate having a competition, he always won, and slowly but surely I got addicted.
Played Farmville for a brief time, then I realized I was getting kind of sucked in and stopped.
I like Bejeweled because it is fun and quick and I can sit here and play one game or sit here and play 10, and in reality I'm not wasting to much time.
I play SuperPoke Pets because it is ridiculously cute and allows me to be creative. I love Castle Age because it has a lot of different elements to it and allows for cooperative play. I also started Farmville recently but only because iPhone added an app for it and I wanted to send exclusive gifts to my friends. That being said, I am still playing but only until it annoys me and then it is gone. =) I used to play Mafia Wars and Vampires but the Vampires system is broken past Level 70 and Mafia Wars is incredibly repetitive. I got into higher levels and kept feeling like "now what?". Feel free to email me if you have questions or find me on Facebook. =)
I'll admit to it... I'm addicted to Family Feud on Facebook. It's a way to kill time...But there's only so many games you're allowed to play in a day so it doesn't waste your day. lol
I don't play any of the farmville type games - just not my kind of thing, but do know loads of people of love them! I do play scrabble on facebook...but then that's a whole other kind of addiction for me...
I used to play one called Cafe World and also Mafia Wars, but I found they took up waaaay too much time once you got past a certain level, so I gave up. I prefer games on the playstation or flash games like on candystand.com really.
I am guilty of playing a couple of those games (farmville, and bricks breaking) when I work graveyard shifts...What can I say, usually it's 8 of my 12 hours where I am left to keep my self awake and occupied however I can, and the computer is a good way to do that...I watch a lot of computer television shows too. I have found for a long time though I just don't have the time to play those games when I am not at work, just too time consuming otherwise.
I played Desktop Tower Defense as a competition with some friends for a while, but then everyone got bored. I don't think "play" is the right word for farmville and the like, is there even any "game" aspect to them?
I feel bad saying this but I cannot stand the games :) I "hide" all the apps when they show up (for example if someone is playing Farmville, and it shows and update, I hide it. Had to do the same with Bejeweled Blitz and all the other one that were taking up too much room on my new feed). I guess if I had the time I might get into it, but I really don't know how everyone finds the time to play the games. I must be doing something wrong, lol.
I got obsessed with Farmville for a while then realised it was a bit sad! I like Word Twist and did play Scrabble until I moved continents and the US and European versions are not compatible. Oh and I used to play Attack quite a lot. These days though it's just for communicaions and I block game notifications.
I don't play - but my DH (dear husband) does. It started with Farmville and it was the social nature of the game that got him. He has made a wide circle of friends round the world as a result, and they spend as much time on chat as they do playing the game. Farmville lasted about three months and then he got bored. Now it's scrabble (we are outside the USA so he has access to the proper game). He's now got a whole new group of friends, although the old Farmville ones are still in the circle.
What I see with him (as well as my sons who are more hardcore online gamers) is that the social nature of the game is very important. It's about creating an excuse to communicate with others, or a structure in which it is to meet and exchange ideas with new people.
I think that social gaming is the new frontier of social media and where the real new progress is going to happen in the next while. As humans we have a long tradition of using organised games as a vehicle for social interaction. This is the online version. We love structure and rules of interaction, as well as created scenarios to give us something to talk about.

the (now ex) bf and I played countless facebook games. Every day he would come up with a new one and I would join him. After we broke up and I had to give his laptop back, I had to go back to my laptop and games wouldn't run as good on here. So I've stopped playing fb games altogether.
I do know people who play the games and really enjoy them.

Now I play nothing.
