i have a couple of websites i use as kind of "portfolio" sites, and use for promotion, and putting up various series of works, etc. i have 2 now that i am paying for and trying to decide on which to keep (they both cost about the same). one is thru zenfolio and one thru Virb, and I keep going back and forth between the 2 unable to really decide which one i'm more happy with (looks and functionality wise). i signed up for zenfolio because i thought about trying to sell some prints on there, but have ultimately decided i'm not sure i want to do that, since i don't really have control over the printing, etc, so i'm not sure i will even use that feature anymore...
if anyone has a minute i would love to get your feedback on which site looks/feels better to you out of the 2. (they both have all the same content on them, just wondering more about layout, fonts, colors, look and feel). THANKS!!

I prefer the layout of the 2nd one, but the black / blackish background of the 1st. Personally I always think photo's look better when displayed on black.
I feel the same as Jase. I think the layout is much better on the Virb one, and the photos on Zenfolio are awfully slow to load. However, the black background is better for viewing the photos. So if you could get the Virb, but with black background that would be optimal? If you can't, I would personally still choose the Virb one. Feels more professional and photographer-ish!
@vendetta@aspada@38mm thank you all for the thoughts. interesting to know the ones on Zenfolio are slow to load. i think i can change the colors on virb. i'll have to play around with it. i thought it looked a bit better with the white background, but i can always make it black to see how it looks like that, and change it back if i don't like it. i am thinking the virb one too. since i don't think i'm going to stick with the selling thing (plus you can sell on virb, but you need to have an extra acct with their selling partner - no big deal just a little more $$). thanks again!
Umm, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but they both look the same to me. They both have a white background, same font, etc. They both upload just as quickly. And if I go to your virb site and click on a gallery, the IP address is the same as the IP address on the same gallery in the zenfolio site. Anyway, I love your photos too.

the weirdest thing is, i am noticing that when i use a custom domain on either of these sites, the site suddenly looks smaller on my screen than if it is a subdomain address like jlvart.virb.com
@jennverr - Oh, okay! I thought I was crazy or something! I'm confused on which is which, but I agree that I definitely like the one on the black background. The layout with the thumbnails on the side and the black make it look more professional.
Agree with the the comments above - black background is best, and the layout of the second is a bit more simple and quicker to load. Neat that you've put all of this together as well.
