London without the tourists - this Jubilee weekend

May 29th, 2012
Im planning a trip into London during the bank holiday after this weekend. Anyone got any suggestions for some good places to go to take some 365 photos where the tourists WONT be. I realise ists a stupid weekend to go into London, but there you go.

I was thinking Docklands and the City might be quiet...

or maybe I should get brave and try some shots of people...!

Ohhh - you must photograph the crowds, flags etc!

@boogie Well the day is starting with an open top bus tour, so im sure i'll get quite a bit of that under my belt by breakfast! But where to go afterward when I cant take any more of those pesky tourists?!

Erm, I believe you won't get around seeing tourists and you won't be able to avoid the masses of Londoners on the streets either. It's gonna be a crazy weekend with street and bridge closures on sunday, so be prepared! Usually, the city is quiet but it won't be with the pageant parade this sunday.

Find the really rough areas, high crime, murder rate, unemployment. good photos and a lack of tourists. That's my advice. Maybe Brixton?

I was sick just reading that message, sounds dreadful. I'd be on sleeping tablets to avoid the cockney carnival. If you fancy a break from the self-serving ostentation you could head up to Manchester!

@chewyteeth Haha, thanks for the offer but I will probably have received my new lens by then and will be craving to get some shots of those tourists and the whole carnival, hehe.

And yes, I believe, Brixton might have few tourists. Peckham and maybe Tottenham should have few, too ;)

it's the Jubilee weekend - London will be mobbed with people, locals and tourists.....if you don't want to see anyone I would suggest avoiding the whole city ! Or else, go with the flow and enjoy all the colours and sights you will see with the city mobbed with people !

Hackney, Thats bad man land. Hackenbush. Gritty as you get, watch your back though! crackheads will have the laces out ya trainers.

London is going to be busy 'full-stop' this weekend - might be hard to find a quiet spot!

Just try the odd angles - minimise the people; close up on bunting & just see shadows of people through it. Etc.
(Am assuming you're not a Londoner ... so aren't you a tourist too?)

@chewyteeth Cock-a-knee and Brixton??

Go to Beckton it's always dead there...

Highgate Cemetery. There are two sections to it, one is open to the public, the other on Sundays i think, they do a guided tour of the half that is usually closed.

I've been up to the city few time for work at weekends, its always quiet. Good building shots etc....but may be not this weekend....

well it seems avoiding the crowds is going to be difficult. If you cant beat 'em, join 'em I suppose! Thanks all for your advice, hopefully something will come out of it.
