Hubby and I are bike touring in Germany this summer. I want to take a camera that is small and light-weight, but will produce excellent pictures (includes a zoom). Recommendations? Thank you!!
I have 2 coolpix model camera I am generally happy with. I have an 8700 and a 7600. Both of them are several years old now (maybe even antiques by "digital camera standards" and really my only complaint is that they tend to be a little slow between focus and shutter release. I'm sure by now Nikon (and the other camera manufacturers) have imporved this in the point and shoot camera category. One thing I really like about both my Nikons is that they take amazingly sharp macro shots which is primarily what I use them for now. Nikon is noted for making really fine lenses.
I've just bought a Canon Powershot A220 from a local supermarket for €69
I previously had a Canon Ixus100IS which cost me about £120 a couple of years ago, both of them are great little cameras, easily fit in a pocket, my new one has a 4x optical zoom, I find it pretty good. I don't use the digital zoom on the camera, I find I get a better zoom by doing it on the computer later. Both cameras take great macro shots too.
Have a great time in Germany.
@gurry --- You're too funny! hahaha!!!!

Great advantages for travel: they take AA batteries, they have a viewfinder and they have manual control.
And a swivel screen.
