I'm looking for a definate upgrade from my Kodak Z812 IS Zoom.
I'm pretty sure I want a Canon, i'd like some advice on this camera.
I was looking at the Canon EOS Rebel T1i, but then there is also the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, the difference is the T1i has 15 mp, and the T2i has 18. Only other big difference is Auto Focus during video is only available in the T2i.
I will probably never use it for video so i'm thinking the 100 dollar diffence isn't worth it for 3 mp.
Do you think I should save the money and go with the T1i, or is it a huge diffence of 3 mp where it would be worth the extra money?
Also, any comments or reviews from people who have this camera also?
I have the 500d t1i. I have never used the video on it!! Guess I should! I am happy with the results. I also have a Nikon d40, and the megapixel diffence between the two doesnt seem really evident to me. Buy what you can afford!
What it depends on is whether or not you're going to be doing any tight cropping? If you're really going to do a lot of macro shots where you zoom very far in, then I'd go with the higher MP. If not, then go for the cheaper one!
Remember though that their sensors are the same size, so more megapixels equals more noise ( http://www.laesieworks.com/digicom/MP.html). Besides, the difference between 15m and 18m pixels is pretty insignificant unless you're planning on printing some billboards!
Sounds as if the cheaper option is the better option in your case if you don't need video.
I use the T1i, and I've done every shot in my album with the stock lens it came with. I love the T1i, and the feature upgrades the T2i come with aren't worth it to me. I have never used the video features, nor do I need 3mp more because I'm not doing massive prints.
I bought the T1i for the video, but don't use it as much as I thought I would because it is hard to keep focused. I am can use manual focus when I am looking through the eye piece, but to shoot video, you have to use the screen on the back. It is really hard to focus manually while holding the camera in front of you! So - the autofocus video is worth $100 - but only if you are going to shoot video. :-)
