Half way there!

July 1st, 2012
If you've started the 365 Challenge on January 1st, then today marks the halfway point. This is my first run through a Photo a Day project, and I'm absolutely loving it! There may be some days where I get a bit stressed trying to squeeze in a shot (yesterday's was taken at midnight), but overall, I'm having a great time exploring with my camera.

What are your thoughts on the first half of your project? What have you learned so far?

They say photography is the easiest art to master, but the hardest to put your own stamp on....I guess I'm thinking about that more recently. But I don't count cos I'm 150% in.

I finally shared mine today. I was going to wait until I was done but decided to do it now. I went through it quickly before I sent it off. (and decided it's probably best to start in March) It's been an amazing experience so far. It was harder at first than it is now...it's become habit. Mind you, it was January at first so that added to the difficulty I'm sure. The friends I have made and the growth that has happened as well as the joy I have found in my work is fantastic. I love it. (although I'm ready for a DSLR I think)

I can't believe how fast the first half has gone! Still enjoying taking photos everyday, and there has only been a couple of very long work days whereI have got home at night and had to look around at what I had at home to photograph....some of those got great comments!!
I have learned
*to make sure the memory card is in the camera
*that all those dials and letters on the camera are there for a reason...and now I know how to use them
*its OK to tweak pics to make them look better
*I don't need photoshop or lightroom to be happy with the photos I take
*people on 365 are so generous with their expertise and practical advise
*it doesn't matter if my pics don't get into the voting 5 in challenges and themes, it's the joining in that gets me to learn new techniques.
*some people on this site have a wicked sense of humour, and I get a laugh every day!

I'm sure I have learnt a lot more, but am really enjying the journey. My gift to me to celebrate 50% is to order my new D5100

I have learned that it is harder to take a photo each and every day than one might think. I've also learned that it is alot of fun to look back over several months of photos. I think my photo's have gotten better, but sometimes I don't have alot of time to put into a shot. I have learned to appreciate some of the wonderful people that I have gotten to know here and really appreciate what I've learned from them!

I still love it!! I have used my camera on manual since I started this project and have learned so much! I really feel like my photos have improved and I've picked up so many things from everyone else on the site. This is a very fun community to be a part of.

I have experienced most of the same things as all the comments above. Even though I have been a keen photographer for many years, I realise now I only took pictures when I went on holiday! This project certainly opens your eyes to the light, lines, shapes, people, plants, movement... in fact to EVERYTHING going on around you! You think photography all day long, and now you carry your camera wherever you go. It's certainly changed my world, and not to mention all the great people I've "met" on this site.

I started yesterday and this looks very promising. The people from all parts of the world with varying levels experiences in this wonderful art here make it very unique; and fun. Looking forward to a great learning experience.

I started here on January 1st too.
I do not shoot everyday, i prefer to arrange a cool place to visit and shoot several photos at once and post them along the week than to find things to photograph in my everyday life.
That is working fine.

I realized i had a great progression in my pictures and knowledge. I got also better at photo processing.

I now have different eye than from when i started. The photos that used to satisfy me in the beginning now don't. I crave for different, more unusual things. For instance: i don't photograph city night shots anymore because that is just too common, i tend to diversify what i do. And more than ever, i crave for a greater technical challenge. Difficult lighting, flash photography, night shows, and so on. I want to be able to do everything. From flower macro to concerts and to beautifully crafted advertising shots.

What i want for the rest of the year?
if possible, to develop and to discover my own style.
To photograph ideas. To come out with concepts and really produce it.
If possible, to find an art gallery to expose some of my work.
To promote myself and find new contacts and friends in the field.

Also i could not forget to mention: you are amazing.
I wouldn't have got so far (and be happy with my development) if it wasn't for all the support i got from this community.

You are just too enthusiastic, loving and involved to believe.

Well it's a leap year, so this photo marks the end of the first half:

And this marks the start of the 2nd half :

It's my half-way mark too and I'm stoked that I've made it this far, considering I'm usually a haphazard and disorganised person who can't stick at things. I learnt just about everything I know about photography from this project and all the amazing people on here who are so generous with their time and knowledge. Thanks for hanging in there with me guys.
My celebration shot: Half a cake for half a year

Oh cooool! I also started on January 1st :) I love it, and I know that all the stress of trying to squeeze in a photo before midnight will be worth it in the end! I have learnt so much from everyone here and I *hope* my photos are improving as I go along! I think they are :)
