Nikon Coolpix P510 - problems with LCD monitor

July 6th, 2012
My camera has developed a fault with the LCD monitor which is all pixilated. It went back to Nikon under warranty but came back worse than when I sent it. Has anyone else had any problems with theirs? I'm not sure whether to have a refund from Amazon and buy another from a local retailer as they don't have any more from their supplier or whether I should just buy a different kind of camera. Any suggestions?

I don't understand why it came back worse from Nikon. I say call Nikon and ask them why it's worse. Then tell them you want it fixed right, or you want a new camera. I would not let Nikon off the hook on this.

Nikon have asked me to return it to them but that will mean another 10 days away and Amazon have offered me a full refund which I think I shall probably accept and then go and buy the same camera from Jessops in the town where a friend of mine works. I will probably have a chat with him about perhaps getting a DSLR instead. I'm not really sure yet but will probably make up my mind once I have talked to him.

@mikehamm Sorry I should have clicked on reply but have a look at what I've written above. I think the reason the camera is worse is because ;before I sent it back if you squeezed the LCD monitor at the top and bottom (it felt like you were holding it together!), the pic became clear and I think they have stablilised the monitor but in the wrong position, i.e. where it was before I squeezed it together. They say that they tested it at the factory but if they had they would have realised it was like this and wouldn't have sent it back.

@rosiekind - Hi Rosie,
I agree with your choice to take the refund and get a new one elsewhere. When I was looking for my camera, I began my search wanting a DSLR camera, specifically the Nikon D3100. Seeing the Nikon Coolpix P510, I was sold on it. I love the zoom, and the less weight.
I'll be interested to know what you decide.

PS - Current Canadian ad for Best Buy has the Nikon DSLR D3100 on sale at $499.99 ($160. off) ...if your local store does price matching....

@eyeseeu Thanks I'll let you know what I decide but like you I really enjoyed the zoom on Coolpix P510 and it's ease of use

@rosiekind - Hi Rosie,
Did you have any success in returning the P510?

Yes Amazon gave me a full refund and I then ordered another Coolpix P510 from John Lewis which I've been using now for several months. Touch wood, I don't seem to have a problem with this one. I do really like it because it is not heavy and has such a fantastic zoom!
