I am about to upgrade my mobile phone and I want to get one with a good camera. I used to have a Sony c905 which took great shots. My current phone is a HTC desire and I am really disappointed with it. It takes crap photos, especially with the flash
So does anyone have a preference. I know the iphone 4s is supposed to be good but what about the newer HTC and Samsung Galaxy?
I know some of you guys will have opinions so I want to hear them,
@calx I had the HTC Wildfire which took quite decent photos, upgraded to Desire and I too am disappointed with it ~ My partner has HTC One and tbh I dont find any improvement ~ but that is just my opinion ... what i will say in defense of the HTC ~ I have added photo apps, and these do help... I have only ever had HTC with camera so really cannot compare to others ~ hope you get some more useful advice :-)
Android is so fragmented, they all modify the operating system with their oddities, the apps are a million miles behind the Apple App Store selection and c'mon, the iPhone is beautifully designed and you know each tiny little bit has been scrutinised over, can you say the same thing about Android?
Don't go hoping for much from a mobile phone flash though, the iPhone one sucks too.
Don't get a phone for the camera but for calling :-) Iphone doesn't have a good camera but Hipstamatic is my love, haha! Any other phone is not on my list though!
@mastermek The _last_ thing that I do with my device is make phone calls. :) AT&T could start charging me by the minute and I would come out far, far ahead.
@calx I have been very happy with the iPhone 4s in terms of camera quality, etc. I have a friend that has the newer HTC and she is very unhappy with the camera. She's a diehard 'Droid user but is considering moving on just because of this. YMMV
I went with the Samsung Galaxy S2, It's a good sized screen and has an 8MP front camera. I find it has an incredibly bright flash for a phone and I've found plenty of camera apps with very little issues. I've never had an Iphone so I can't really comment on the quality of their apps.
It's not dSLR quality but the image quality of better then most, if not all the point and shoot cameras on the market.
Im using my iPhone 4 for the whole of my project ............ really pleased with most of the results . As Paul above says .......... the Apps are amazing and there's so many.
My daughter has an android phone and her photos are amazingly sucky. My coworker had one and her photos are OK. I love my IPhone camera enough that I am getting lens attachment for it. Nuff said
I used to have a HTC desire, but I now have an iphone4, I love it, I was kidding myself thinking android was 'just as good' I don't think I will ever be able to go back now :)
I have the HTC Desire and the camera is just awful.
For many years I was a Sony Ericsson cell phone user. The picture quality was outstanding. I have missed my old sony phones and have not been happy with any other phone (including the i-phone 4s) for pictures.
I am planning on buying the Sony Xperia Ion soon. It has a 12MP rear facing camera. Can take a picture once every second. Has a front facing 1 MP camera.
i have iPhone4S some of my photos are from my 4S so far im satisfied with it, and it goes with some awesome FREE APP! but you might want to wait a little more to get
iphone 5 instead?
I follow a few people who take photos for this project just on their iPhone and I am always astounded by the quality of the photos. I have a Sony Ericson Experia and I can't even get the camera to fire most times! It is good for tethering to my iPad though and to make phone calls. However, if you are an Apple user their sharing and ease of use is pretty much unrivalled. I probably won't be changing to an iPhone when my contract ends as iPhone plans are far more expensive than comparable Android plans but for quality of pics at the moment I think they stand out!
@calx So what? You probably have a bank account, they know exactly where you go and what you buy. You have an android phone already, Google are probably the company that keeps the most data on you out of any company in history. If you're worried about privacy you have no hope in the modern age.
No competition.

@mastermek @beautifulthing phone calls? What are those a mobile is for photos, email, text and 365 of course!
@rockinrobyn I'm hearing u there!
however if you insist, I like the look of the newer JCB phones, I think by motorola, they look cool!

here are some shots from my 4S
Oh well, I was close...i said almost!! I forgot about your other album.....
I always think of you when it comes to iPhone photos!!
That said...my Nikon kicks its butt in every way! Maybe I've been a photographer too long and have control issues :)
For a point and shoot its good if that's what you're looking for...the flash is not my favorite
