Placing one image within another in PSE

July 20th, 2012
Does anyone know how to have one image as the background, then shrink and place another image within the first image. I use PSE 8. I'm not all that knowledgeable about this program. Any solutions would be SO appreciated!

p.s. I did a screen grab of the images, but can't figure out how to get it into this post :(

I can't give all the details, because I don't remember exactly...but I googled it to find out and had good success! Think I googled something like "how to do picture in picture in pse" @daguerre

I'll try it right now. Thank you Lynn.

Open both images. In the project bin double click on the Project Bin (Window->Project Bin if you don't see it already) double click the desired background image. You should now see this in the main canvas area. Back in the project bin, click and drag the foreground image onto the main canvas. This creates a new layer containing the second image on top of the background layer and make the new layer active. Enable the Move tool (top icon or press V to make this the active tool) and resize/reposition the foreground image to the desired size/location on the background image.

What Tom @dakotakid35 said is what I did here. I also erased a lot of the color image, so that only my face and hands were showing, so it looked like I was inside my own eyeball.

Can you actually resize the foreground image while working in a layered graphic in such a way that only the foreground image is shrunk? I use an older version of Photoshop, and resizing always seems to mean that all layers are resized at the same time. I therefore have always had to resize anything as a separate standalone image and then paste it in.

@carmel Once you place the layers on top, you can work with individual layers. Use the select tool at the top and you should be able to resize right there.

@dakotakid35 Thank you Tom. What you suggested is exactly what I ended up doing, with fairly good results. @webfoot Thank you Paul. I really like what you've done with your images.
I feel like such a novice at times!

@webfoot - Very cool processing, Paul. @daguerre - glad to be of help. PSE has an amazingly great set of tools, but isn't particularly intuitive (at least to me). One really good site with tips and tricks that I have learned a lot from is http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/ - lots of great videos/tutorials starting from the basics.

At a minimum figure out the basics of layers ( http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/photoshop-elements-layers.html) and you'll be able to do some amazing things.
